Panaroma view of a landscape in Ethiopia

The non-profit organization "Let's plant e.V." (https://www.lets-plant.org/), which has been accredited in Meckenheim / Bonn since 2018, has organized an international photo competition on its core concern: to upgrade / improve degraded land in the sense of holistic landscape management. The call for proposals had been issued in cooperation with the “Tropentag 2020” (https://www.tropentag.de/). This event has taken place from 9th to 11th of September 2020 as an online conference. It was organized by the Tropical and Subtropical Agricultural Sciences Working Group (ATSAF) e.V. (https://atsaf.org/) together with the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. With around 1,000 participants, the "Tropentag" is regularly considered one of the largest scientific congresses on the subject of tropical and subtropical agricultural sciences worldwide. It is interdisciplinary and designed with a strong emphasis on young scientists.

The idea of the photo competition was to find pictures and photo reports on the topic that are as expressive as possible. In this way, interesting, promising and emotionally appealing approaches should be collected and made known. The announcement of the competition was issued on the homepage of Tropentag 2020 (https://www.tropentag.de/conference/photocompetition.php) and here.

The two categories of the competition were:

  1. Best single picture
  2. Best photo story (max 10 photos)

An informative title and, if possible, a small history and (scientific) background information were asked to be provided for each submission. Submissions should have been sent to fotocontest@lets-plant.org. Deadline for submissions was August 31st 2020. A jury made up of members of Let’s Plant, the organizers of Tropical Day 2020 and the European Forestry Institute (EFI) reviewed the entries and prepared a ranking list.
